Loose Lead Walking

What Is Loose Lead Walking?

Loose lead walking training aims to teach your dog to walk close to you, while keeping their lead loose – hence the name! The goal isn’t to get strict obedience heelwork, where your dog never leaves your side, but rather to allow your dog to explore their environment without the stress and risks that continuous lead pulling brings.

What Are The Benefits Of Loose Lead Walking Training?

The benefits of teaching your dog to walk well on a loose lead include:

  • Your dog walks will become more peaceful and calmer.
  • You will look forward to walking your dog and enjoy it.
  • Your dog will feel more comfortable and relaxed on their walks.
  • Less risk of damage to your dog’s body because they are not constantly pulling.
  • Having more control over your dog, instead of being dragged along behind them.
  • Reduced tension, stress and frustration for both you and your dog.
  • Safer walks for you, your dog, and everyone around you.
  • Increased ability for your dog to listen to you and respond to your cues.
